"Mrs. McGuire, 7 Gordon Street, Ayr. has received official intimation from the War Office, that her husband, Private McGuire, Royal Scot Fusiliers, has been killed in action at Ypres. He was in the reserve when war broke out, and was employed at Ayr shipyard as a holeborer. He was attached to the 1st battalion, and was drafted to the front in September. He was 32 years of age, and Mr McGuire is left with 3 children. The eldest of whom i three years of age. A brother of Private McGuire, Sergeant P. McGuire, was wounded at the Aisne, and is at present in Ayr. and another brother is serving with the Highland Light Infantry."

"Official intimation has been received by Mrs Neilson, 29 Union Avenue, Ayr, that her husband, Acting Quartermaster-Sergeant Neilson, 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers, who was wounded in the fighting at Neuve Chapelle, has died in No.13 General Hospital, Boulogne. Sister Jean M. Murray, a nurse in the hospital, in a letter says "He was very keen to get back to Scotland, and did his best to get well, but his condition from the first was too serious." He had 16 years service with the Fusiliers, nine of which were spent in India. With his Battalion he left Gibralter on September 9, and was at the front on October 2. Recently he was home on leave from the trenches, and had been back at the front only about three weeks when he was wounded. He leaves a widow and two children."

Unveiled on Sunday the 13th of April 1924 by Sir Hugh H.M. Trenchard. It is 26 foot tall and has 808 WW1 names upon it. The approximate cost of the memorial was £2000. The memorial was designed by Mr J. Kennedy Hunter of Ayr and the bronze panels were made by Messrs H.H. Martyn and Co. of Cheltenham.

"Official intimation has been received by Mrs Kennedy, 6 Simonds Wynd, Ayr, that her husband, Private James Kennedy, 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, was killed in the trenches in February 27. In a letter to his mother, Sergeant T. Dickson, of the same regiment writes:-"He was lying in his dugout when a shell burst near, and he was killed instantaneously along with Sergeant Pratt and other three comrades-five in all. We were all very sorry, as your son was very popular with everyone. He was a very good soldier, and had been recommended for promotion." Private Kennedy, who was 26 years of age, had eight years service with the fusiliers, and was on the Reserve. Before rejoining he was working as a miner at the Bungalow Pit, Prestwick. Locally he was well known in football circles, and played for Ayr Athletic in recent seasons. He leaves a widow and two young children."

"Official intimation has been received by Mrs Saunders, 93 George Street, Ayr, that her husband, Private R,. Saunders, 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers, was killed in action on March 11. Private Saunders, who was in the Reserve, went to the front in December, and since that time had taken part in all the fighting in which the 2nd Battalion were engaged. Before the War he was employed at the Ayr shipyard. He leaves a widow and three of a family."

"Official intimation has been received by Mrs Brown, 12 James Street, Ayr, that her husband, Sergeant Joseph Brown, 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers, was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle. When war broke out he was employed at Mossblown Colliery, and resided in Ayr. He was a time expired man of the R.S.F., and had the Burmah Medal, the King's Medal and the African Medal. Although 51 years of age, he rejoined his old regiment in January, and was drafted to the front in February. He is survived by his widow and five children."

"Private William Kent, 9th Royal Scots, was killed in action on April 23. A sergeant of his company states that he was attending a wounded comrade and was shot through the head. He was 24 years of age, and enlisted on November 11. Before the war he had been for eight years employed in the office of the County Sanitary Inspector, Ayr. His mother resides at 6 Hawkhill Avenue, Ayr."

"A telegram has been received in Ayr from the Canadian office in London intimating that Private Thomas C. Chalmers, Princess Patricia's Light Infantry, has been killed in action. His parents, who reside at 22 Kyle Street, Ayr, had received a letter from him at the beginning of the week, and he wrote in high spirits. Private Chalmers was an old Ayr Academy boy, and served an apprenticeship in the British Linen Company's Bank in Ayr. Subsequently he went to America, where he was engaged in the Nova Scotian Bank, first at Toronto and later at Peterborough, Ontario. He was 23 years of age. Before leaving Ayr he was well known in junior football circles. An elder brother, Walter, also serving with the Canadians, is at present lying wounded in a hospital in France, and a third brother is in the ranks of the Ayrshire Yeomanry at their war station."
