David,
I noted you got a copy of this for your birthday. Are there details of those who served or only for the fallen?

There is some detail for men who served. Not as much as those who were killed.
You need a name or two looked up? |

Do you know regiments? There isn't an index and it's broken down by unit. |

Get your finger out and add indexing this to your work-stack then

"DUFFY, MICHAEL J. Staff-Major, Dunbeth Lodge, Laird Street.
Major Duffy enlisted in an infantry regiment in September, 1914, and having obtained his commission, was transferred to the Royal Engineers. About one year afterwards he was promoted to the rank of Captain, and after serving in the latter regiment for six months was wounded. On recovery he was appointed Staff-Major and Deputy Assistant Director of Movements on War Office Staff. He was discharged as permanently unfit for service in March 1919."
Incidentally, I lived on Laird Street for fifteen years - if you want a photo of the house I could try and get a picture for you.

There's an entry for a Duffy, John, Gunner. 394 Dundyvan Road. Number 181676.
No photo for him. To get a photo in the book you either had to be an officer or died. |

Fantastic, made my day. That's the right John Duffy at Dundyvan Rd too.
I think the house was demolished some years ago and police accomodation erected on the site. |

The police houses were right next door to my house. Ours was a recent new build as well - the old manse had been demolished before we moved there. |

David can you have a look and see what the book has for the following man on the memorial: BLOYNEY, THOS. CPL. 1ST H.L.I.
I found an entry in the Glasgow Herald that may be him but I can't marry the info up to a CWGC or SNWM entry.
Cheers,
Derek. |

I am going to visit Partick Trinity Church( as its now known after several unions) and get photographs of the War Memorials that they have. Not sure when the visit will be but will post photographs asap afterwards. |

Derek
As already related, the Thomas Blaney , referred to in the press cutting was not KIA 19th - 21st Dec 1914 and shows that press items are often unreliable in isolation. This detail is known to be wrong as he was confirmed to be a POW in Germany in May 1915. He is certainly 74585, later 10794 Thomas BLANEY H.L.I.
He was demobilised in 1919 _________________ Jim
