From my research project for the War Memorials in several Coatbridge Churches, which are now united in New St. Andrews Parish Church, I have this small piece of additional information regarding Charles Scott.

He is remembered on the Maxwell Parish Church Memorial and the Coatbridge Civic Memorial.

""It is possible that he was the first Coatbridge soldier who fell in battle as the date suggests.""

Falkirk Herald, 1st May 1915 (Included in the Denny & Dunipace section)

'Six sons with the colours'

Mr. & Mrs. Aitken, North Square, Gartsherrie, Coatbridge, have no fewer than six sons serving with the colours. They are as follows:

Robert Aitken, Army Service Corps

John Aitken, Lowland Division, Royal Engineers (Territorials)

Robert first joined the colours during the Boer War, after which he was employed in Portugal. All the brothers are members of Gartsherrie Amateur Swimming Club, and James and Robert have frequently been prize-winners at the annual gala. The father, Mr. Andrew Aitken, is a native of Dunipace, and was employed as an engineer at Quarter Pit for a considerable number of years. He is at present employed in the same capacity in Gartsherrie Iron Works. Mrs. Aitken is a native of Condorrat.

Brothers Andrew & James are listed on a family stone in Old Monkland Cemetery, see: (Page 6) http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/viewtopic.php?t=93&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=75&mforum=scottishwargraves

Nathaniel Baillie is listed on the War Memorial for Cliftonhill Church, Coatbridge which is now in New St. Andrews Church, Coatbridge.

His name was listed in the Hamilton (Ontario) Herald newspaper as “one of a noble army that sleeps in Flander’s fields and on other battle fronts”.

This quote has been inserted on Nathaniel's page in the Memorial Book which I researched for the Church.
