"Mr & Mrs McGraw, Thankerton Rows, Holytown, have received information to the effect that their son, Private George McGraw, Highland Light Infantry, was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle. A comrade who was near him when he fell states that Private McGraw was killed in the midst of a bayonet charge. He joined the Army five years ago, and served for two years in India. He was 22 years of age and unmarried."

Not on this memorial or the one at Coatbridge. There's a L.Cpl. of the same name at New Stevenston?
The only other two A.&.S.H. William Brodie's are of Paisley and Campbeltown.

"Intelligence has reached Holytown that Private William Brodie, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, died in hospital in France. He had come through the retreat from Mons and subsequent engagements. At the battle of Neuve Chapelle he sustained a slight wound. After his recovery he was overcome with illness while in the trenches, and died the following day. He was 29 years of age and unmarried."

According to the War Return cause of death was "Acute Septicaemia"

Pte. Robert Brown, 1st Scots Guards

(Glasgow Herald 8th May 1915)
"Private Robert Brown, 1st Scots Guards, who was employed at Thankerton Collieries, and resided in lodgings in Main Street, Holytown, is officially posted as missing since November 11. Private Brown possesses the South African medal, having come through the whole of the campaign, an his connection with the Army dates back 17 years. When the present hostilities broke out he was a time-expired special Reservist, but like many more war veterans he re-enlisted. He is a relation of Mr Wilson Lennox, Main Street, Holytown."
