Shandon - Dumbarton, Helensburgh District
The Shandon war memorial is a particularly fine red sandstone celtic cross with a 'tree of life' design carved onto the face and a bronze tablet with the names of the dead set into the tapered sandstone pedestal. The inscription in the lower panel at the base of the 'tree of life' states:
'AND THE LEAVES OF THE TREE WERE FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS'
The memorial stands on the edge of the modern carriageway near the village.

It would be nice to get a more up to date photograph of this memorial.
