Other notes: Private McGowan’s Medal Index Card shows him as entering the Gallipoli Theatre of Operations on 15/5/1915. His Index Card shows the following comment “O i/c records Dublin , requests authority re disposal of medals 5/1/22.”
Grave/Memorial: Special Memorial. C. 58. Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery.

He was a reservist, and was called up at the outbreak of war. Before rejoining the Army he was employed with Messrs Barr and Son, coppersmiths, Greenock. His brother Thomas McCready, was killed on September 25."

"Mr and Mrs Duncan Galbraith, Ann Street, Greenock, have received intimation that their son, Private Duncan Galbraith, 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, was killed in action on March 12. Private Galbraith enlisted at the beginning of September, and with his regiment was attached to the Indian Expeditionary Force. Before enlisting he was a fireman with the Brewers' Sugar Company."

"A post-card has been received in Greenock intimating that Private John McGill, A Company 1st H.L.I. Indian Forces, was killed at the Neuve Chapelle engagement. McGill, who was 25 years of age, was six weeks only in Greenock, and was engaged as a porter at Prince's Pier Station. It is understood that he belonged to Glasgow, where two sisters reside."

Not on the memorial at Limekilns or Dunfermline.

(Glasgow Herald 27th May 1915)
"James Whitehead, first petty officer, Anson Battalion, R.N.V.R., has been killed at the Dardanelles on the 8th inst. Mr Whitehead was only 21 years of age, and had a remarkable career in the Naval Reserve. He was born in the village of Limekilns, near Dunfermline, but before his schooldays were done his parents removed to Greenock. He is the eldest son of Mr Robert Whitehead, one time a carpenter in Limekilns, and now residing at Oakfield Terrace, Greenock. Mr Whitehead's name was the only one appearing in the navy section on the roll at the school of his native village."
