Dundee Law
Taking its name from an old Scots word for a hill, Dundee Law, or Law Hill, is a conical mass of volcanic basalt forming the highest point in the city of Dundee. It rises to a height of 174m (571 feet). An Iron Age hill fort once occupied the site on which now stands a memorial to the dead of World War I erected in 1923. The Beacon of the memorial is lit on four occasions each year: 25th September, in memory of the Battle of Loos where many local men serving in the Black Watch lost their lives; 24th October, for United Nations Day; Remembrance Sunday; and 11th November, Armistice Day.

This monument is definately worth a visit, particularly for the spectacular views of Dundee and beyond. A great experience.

It was also on Dundee Law that John Graham of Claverhouse 'Bonny Dundee' raised the Standard in support of the Jacobite cause;

A photo of the oak stand, and a list of the names contained, if possible, which formed part of the Great War scheme to be appended.
The McManus Art Gallery is currently closed for refurbishment however.

Any one got any info on these two brothers-Walter died on 6th sept 1918 in france and Francis died on 29 Nov 1919 of war related injuries at home in dundee.

On Armistice day 2011, the head teacher at Dalry School, Dumfries and Galloway spoke about his relative Joseph C Willocks who was killed in the Great War and who is listed in the Roll of Honour for Dundee (see newspaper cutting above).

His war diary survives and I understand that plans are underway to put it into the public domain at some time.
