The Secretary of the Scottish National War Memorial at the Castle in Edinburgh has notified me that my namesake Uncle, Lieutenant Patrick Wright Anderson , Black Watch, RFC & RAF has had a new entry created which lists him as a BLACK WATCH officer with the note "Latterly RFC & RAF'. The change will not take place on the SNWM website until the data is upgraded nor will the Book showing the detail until the next reprint of the pages are issued . Lieutant Anderson's name is already recorded on the RAF roll of honour for the Great War with a note recording previously 'Black Watch and RFC '.

The Medal roll records that Lieutenant Anderson's first theatre of war was Egypt (as his 10th Bn Black Watch went onto Salonika ) and he was three Great War medals through the ROYAL HIGHLANDERS and the medal roll records - Deceased. Medals issued were 1914-15 Star, British War & Victory Medals & the 1914-1915 Star impressed Lieut P W Anderson , Royal Highlanders .

Lieut Anderson was born (1892 ) and brought up in Arbroath in Forfarshire and whilst at the Arbroath High School in 1910 he was awarded the Science Medal and he became a Maths and Science student at the University College Dundee then part of St Andrews University and he joined the St Andrews Uni OTC and in 1913 was a Corporal and on the outbreak he applied for a commission in the Black Watch so on 1 September 1914 was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 8th Bn Black Watch stationed at Aldershot then in 1915 he was appointed Lieutenant in the 10th Bn The Black Watch in training at Bristol and then during that spring period they moved to Sutton Veny Wilts joining other Regiments that became the 26th Division. Lieut Anderson was trained to be the Chief Instructor of the 26th Division Bombing School so when they moved to France at Villers Bretteneaux he had a team of Officers and men . Then they were moved to Salonika for active service and in 1917 he did his training as an Observer in the RFC and he joined 18 Sqn RFC in France flying DH 4 day time bombers but on 27 June 1918 he was seriously wounded to the stomach and thigh when his machine was attacked by 10 enemy machines and he lost a lot of blood in getting back to their lines at Aire (Serny airfield of 18 Sqn RAF) . He was hospitalised in France and then in Britain and on Armistice Day 1919 arrived in Arbroath by ambulance train to dress his wounds daily. He died of his wounds on 2 November 1921 in the Arbroath Infirmary .

He is listed on the Arbroath War Memorial , on the St Marys Scottish Episcopal Church war memorial Arbroath, St Andrews Uni OTC (Tayforth Uni OTC ) additional roll of honour at OTC HQ at St Andrews Fife, Dundee University , and on the now lost Roll of honour for Arbroath High School Great War .
