LAWSON TERRIS BLACK WATCH DRUMMER |
The unusual forename stood out. SNWM spell it Tyras, CWGC only have the initial.
The only Terras/Tyras Lawson to die according to the war returns was in 1918 aged 28. The only Terras Lawson (there are none called Tyras) born in Scotland was in Edinburgh in 1892, which if the same person would make him approximately 26 when he died.

He worked at Dourie Foundry, Leven, before being called up. He was unmarried, and resided with his mother at Anderson Street, Leven."
The newspaper has the regiment wrong, they got the "Scots" bit in title right though.

Although the memorial hasn't moved, it has been raised on to a platform. The WW2 panels and wall have been added since this postcard was made as well as the garden that surrounds the memorial.

WMR has now been updated, and the WW2 part taken out to a new report 80787 (which will be fully written in the next few days).
There are also 4 seats beside the memorial, which are WMR 8526 to 8529.
I will try to bottom out the mystery 5740, which seems to be based on a postcard. |
