Around midnight on 16/17th February 1746 , Lord Louden , the CO of Hanoverian forces in the north mustered 1500 troops and set off on the twelve miles march south along Wade's Road to Moy in a bid to capture Prince Charles Edward Stuart . The prince was a guest of Lady Anne Macintosh (Col Anne) at Moy Hall had arrived with a small guard of 50 men . Watching the road 3 miles from Moy Hall was an outer guard of just 5 jacobites led by Donald Fraser , Moy Blacksmith . The Hanoverian Column ,spearheaded by the laird of MacLeod and his men approached in the darkness and they were convinced that there was a large Highland army at hand . Louden's men turned in panic and fled back to Inverness carrying the body of Donald Ban MacCrimmon, Piper to MacLeod and the only casualty of that night .

A new cairn was erected at the spot of the Rout of Moy

Adam, nothing further on the cairn but maybe someone nearer to that area may be able to take a picture for this website ..

I have corrected the date of the Rout on the original entry from 1946 to 1746 ......... !!

Location: Beside General Wade’s Military Road near Tomatin
OS Ref: NH 730 346

This cairn can be found beside General Wade’s Military Road running parallel with the A9 near Tomatin.

If you go on to Google Maps Street View it is fairly easy to find. It is just north of a fork in the road at a small rise.

It looks like this road is really for 4x4s, It may be a private road since there are gates on it, There is a small car park nearby if you want to try and get to it without parking on the single track road.

This is an image from Google Maps Stret View
