RAF will be Royal Air Force, not sure of the other. Langlois might perhaps be in a French or Belgian unit?

Great Roll, wonderful to see all the photographs. It's rare to see photos of every man from an area.

That might make L Btm. J. D. Langlois, C.G. a recipient of the Croix de Guerre (?)

No I think C.G would be Coldstream Guards. It is a French name. If you type it into CWGC it comes up with men from Jersey or French Canadians. L Btm? Lance something, a rank or appointment peculiar to the Guards?

James

You haven't listed the men who aren't on the Cookney War Memorial. If you can list them we might be able to find them.

Thanks

From

http://www.scottish-places.info/parishes/parhistory395.html

The eight schools of Cairnhill, Cookney, Muchalls, Netherley, Rickarton, Stonehaven, Tewel, and Newtonhill

Looking up an OS map Cairnhill is between Cookney and Newtonhill.

Is there a memorial in Newtonhill?

After a wee bit more digging I found that he was born illegitimately to a Marjory Watt in the parish of Arbuthnott in 1891, but registered in Cookney parish. He was named William Murray Black Watt.
Ten years later in 1901 his parents got married!

Cheers,
Derek.

Thanks
