HISTORY OF THE 42nd ROYAL HIGHLANDERS -" THE BLACK WATCH"
"Passing over the next three years, we come to 1872, when, on 2nd April, a handsome monument erected by the officers of the 42nd in memory of the Officers, N.C. Officers, and Privates "who fell in war from the creation of the regiment to the close of the Indian Mutiny in 1859" was unveiled in Dunkeld Cathedral; where, on the same day, the old colours of the 42nd were deposited". |

Given these colours are over 170 years old maybe they should be cased rather than just left hanging?

I have been in contact with my good friend and Regimental historian on Black Watch matters etc : Major R J Proctor MBE ( Military division) at the Black Watch Museum at Perth and he has informed me Viz
The Colours in Dunkeld Cathedral were laid up (Deconsecrated ) in Dunkeld Cathedral after the Crimean War and Indian Mutiny . They are the property of Dunkeld Cathedral ..
Colours once laid up normally there until they literally disintegrate . Their remains and colour pipe reeds should then be buried in consecrated ground .
