Kinghorn - Kirkcaldy District
UKNIWM Ref No. 5720

The Kinghorn war memorial takes the form of a pedestal surmounted by a lifesize figurative group sculpture of a soldier and sailor by Edinburgh sculptor Alexander Carrick. Both sculpture and pedestal are carved from freestone, probably Doddington stone. The commemorations and names of the dead of WWI and WWII are on two bronze tablets set into the faces of the pedestal. The monument stands on an island in the junction of High Street and Rossland Place.
There were occasional disputes over the featuring of specific servicemen on war memorials. The war on the western front was primarily an infantry and artillery war and the prevalence of infantrymen on war memorials is therefore understandable. However some objected that this ignored the dead of the other services and their bereaved relatives and occasionally memorials, especially in coastal towns, featured a group of servicemen such as here at Kinghorn and, elsewhere in Scotland, at Largs and Buckie.

Yes Ken,

He's not on CWGC or SNWM. I noticed on the memorial they are the only two with a regiment listed, seeing as they have the same name. I imagine they've got to be related in some way?

The other Annan Morris died in March 1919 in Kirkcaldy hospital aged 39 of several complications. He was married and described as an "Army Pensioner" formerly a engine fitter, he resided at Kinghorn.

Is he a possible non-comm?

Ken,

Kinethmont has checked out the docs relating to his service. Unfortunately there is no link between his service discharge and death.

So not a 'non-comm'.
