Dear all,
After receiving an update on the latest research that Ken has done on the Kbtshire parishes (thank you, Ken), I was going through a few of my files and 'rediscovered' John Henderson who is mentioned in the Dalbeattie thread.
PTE. JOHN HENDERSON, KOSB.
Not listed by CWGC/SNWM - on information from "Stewarty" is thought to be:
John Henderson, Private (2332) 2/5th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers. Age 27. Enlisted December 1909and discharged May 1915 as no longer fit for military service "tubercle of lungs"
Born 1889 at Dalbeattie. Son of Thomas and Margaret Graham (Maxwell) Henderson.
Died 5 September 1916 of TB at William St. Dalbeattie. Buried in Dalbeattie Cemetery.
His papers are in WO364 and state discharged 'Tubercule of lung' on 15 May 1915. His death certificate states cause of death as ' Tuberculosis; Abscess of Pelvis & Abdomen 10 months'.
Is he currently in the IFTC system or does a new case need to be put forward?
Best wishes,
Stuart _________________ www.sonsofgalloway.org.uk

Sorry to advise that this one cannot go forward.
I put together a case for this man and although in two minds about it sought initial opinion which agreed with my own reservations.
I was advised that
" we have no grounds to put this forward. The documents specifically say that his TB was not due to service – nor that it was aggravated by such. It attributes the illness to ‘constitutional’ causes. This suggests it was present prior to his joining up.
In addition, he died of a tuberculous abscess rather than pulmonary TB. No doubt they are linked though.
Without the definite statement that this was not a service related illness, we would have put him forward (or a later pension medical overturning that comment). But the statement is there. " _________________ Jim
