Managed to watch the last hour and a quarter of this debate - never really watched a commons debate before, great to see all members of the house (govt and opposition) in full agreement of tough new measures against metal theft. War memorials got specific mention on quite a few times. The only Scottish MP to speak in the part that I saw was Russell Brown MP from Dumfries and Galloway who described the 1964 scrap metal dealers act as from the days of steptoe and son, and past its sell by date.

I'd have watched but part 1 of the 2 part Singapore anniversary documentary was on!

Glad it's getting discussed and personally i'd like to see more legilation and resposibility on the part of the scrap yards. Unfortunately it's the same story up and down the coutry, the merchants take known stolen metal because they can pay less out for it because it's dodgy and hence they make a higher profit than paying legitimate scrap prices Sad

Derek.
