The memorial stands at the top of the steps leading to the now demolished parish church. It 'looks' like new marble panels have been inserted where weathering has been causing the names to fade;

From The Scotsman 24 May 1920.
WAR MEMORIALS
UNVEILING AT MOSSGREEN.— There was unveilied on Saturday at Mossgreen, Fife, a memorial to the men in the ecclesiastical parish of Mossgreen who fell in the war. Bearing the names of 79 men, the memorial is in the form of an obelisk set upon a stone base, with four cornerstones built diagonally on the base. At the unveiling ceremony, which was performed by Lady Dorothy Hope Morley, daughter of the Earl of Buckinghamshire, there was a large assembly of the parishioners. The Rev. A. J. Kesting, minister of the parish, presided. An address was given by the Earl of Buckinghamshire.

The Earl of Buckinghamshire owned three coal mines in the area and from this website:
http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/mmartin/fifepits/starter/central/pits/w/pit-4.htm
...It was the stimulating interest in the Earl of Buckinghamshire and his predecessors, who were the principal shareholders in the Fordell Coal Company
