Today`s Courier indicates that there were two Memorial WW1 windows in the old Trottick Church and wonders where they are now.
Another one to find!

I'm moving this to the 'Lost' section because we have nothing to go on to prove that they are still in existence.

Thanks

This was Mains Parish Church (Yes, I know... don't shoot the messenger).
In 1996 the church was sold and converted into five flats. Plaques to benefactors and ministers were removed and placed in the nearby halls, where worship is still carried out today.
The Great War Memorial Window, which was dedicated on the 14th May, 1922, was sold. To whom and where I don't know.

I wonder if the people who sold it actually owned it (in strict legal terms). Windows and other fittings are often gifted to a church but all the war memorials I have seen have been 'accepted into the care' or something similar.

I found this thread on WFA. As there are a couple of you already looking into this, I don't want to but in. If you would like me to raise a query with the Scottish Stained Glass Symposium or flag it up to the War Memorials Trust, just send me a PM.

Jeezo. That pic on the WFA looks awfully like mine! Have I posted this somewhere before.

I assumed it was just that it was from the same newspaper clipping. Any of the other info on the thread of any use?

No answer as far as I can see. The excitement did heighten for a few posts but then petered out.

There is also some debate about whether Strathmartine has a separate memorial. It does and I posted it here in 2007!

Today`s Courier Craigie column contains info from the locum Minister at Mains Church to the effect that the window was unveiled on 14 May 1922 and that there is a photographic record of it in the current Church.
If we`re lucky it might be in colour!
Other info is that it was sold(damaged) to a dealer in England and then exported to America/Canada.

Do we have a list of names on the window?

Hugh, that was my thoughts too. If this window has been sold overseas as damged then the names might have been removed. Hopefully the photo in the church yields a good image of the names.

Thanks

Adam
