Just curious to find out how you marked the two minutes silence on November 11th, and on Remembrance Sunday.

11am on the 11th saw me at work in Glasgow. The two minutes silence was announced via the building tannoy system, and was impeccably observed. For once I didn't hear the clacking of keyboards as people kept working.

Remembrance Sunday saw myself and my daughter at George Square for the service. It had been spiting with rain in the morning, but as with last year as soon as the service began the weahter cleared up and it stayed dry.

A splendid turnout for Remembrance sunday, and nice to see a detachment from HMS Ark Royal. I was told that this was the last parade they would take part in before the ship is decommissioned.

My daughter Lorna was wearing her grandfathers WW2 service medals, and I was incredibly proud of her.

So...where did you observe the two minutes silence?

For the last 15 years I have been under the Menin Gate or just near it.
Unusually on Remembrance Sunday I was in Aberdeen and managed to be at The Service of Remembrance. I'm normally in France or Flanders.

On the 11th I was assisting with the remembrance service at Dalry School where I work as ICT technician. The pupils arrived to the tune 'Hanging on the Old Barbed Wire' by Chumbawamba and the service included a video provided by Poppy Scotland. Spread throughout those attending were slips of paper with personal details and photographs of every Scots soldier killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. I also had running on the school entrance TV system photographs of every British soldier who died in Afghanistan this year.

On Rembrance Sunday I went to the Balmaclellan memorial and photographed a young serving soldier laying the wreath to submit to the local paper.

Well done Paul.

On the 11th I was "childminding" my teens at home but we all stopped at 11 a.m
On Remembrance Sunday I was at the Hawick War Memorial.
I was there in part to watch Ronnie Nichol lay a wreath there as President of Hawick Callants Club.
Ronnie was a Western Front "virgin" with his brother Lindsay when we took them on a battlefields tour to France/Belgium in October.
And it was amazing watching them both. They reminded me of how I felt when I first went over to the old Western Front.
As Ronnie says, it's "better felt than telt".

But Ronnie was great on the day laying his wreath.........gid man!

My wife and I went as usual to the WESTERN CEMETERY ARBROATH for the ROYAL BRITISH LEGION SCOTLAND - Arbroath branch parade and at 11am there was a Two Minutes silence and a Buglar played followed by the Pipe Major of the RBLS arbroath pipeband playing a lament at the War graves in the rain . There was the annual wreath laying at the Cross of Sacrifice at the war graves in Compartment D including a Major from the RM Condor at Arbroath , the only one of the wreath laying in uniform . My wife then laid a Poppy Cross at the Cross of Sacrifice at this cemetery for her Great Uncle kia 1 july 1918 France and her uncle kia Tunisia 17 Nov 1941 and then I laid our Poppy Wreath at my namesake uncle's grave in Compartment D who died 2 months after the cut off date for WW1 casualties.

At 11am on Wednesday 11 November 2010 my wife and I attended the now annual TWO MINUTES silence at the Cross in Forfar where the traffic is stopped for the duration of the event .

On Thursday 11th I observed the 2 min silence in the house, since I was at home.

Sunday saw me at my sons rugby match, wich was due to KO at 11, but it kicked off at 11.02 after they observed a 2 min silence.

On Armistice day I again took part in the Remembrance service at the school. I wore my service medals for the first time (most did not know I used to be in the Army). I explained the meaning of remembrance to me, why ex-servicemen wear their medals and gave brief details of two men from WW2. One from Balmaclellan was in Bomber command and the other from Carsphairn was in the KOSB. Both died on the same day just one month before VE day.

Afterwards I went to a primary class and gave them a quick explanation of the Great War, why we started building memorials and told them about a man from the Dalry memorial (the one nearest the school). I numbered them off and told every 5th one to raise their hands and keep it up. "If all of you went off to fight in that war, look around you, those with your hands up would all be killed, look around you and see how many friends you have lost".

In the afternoon my wife and I went to Bargrennan to pay our respects at the newly rededicated memorial.

On Sunday I shall go to New Abbey for the re-dedication of the UF Church memorial and afterwards I hope to make it to Kingholm Quay in time for their service and the 2 minutes silence. The memorial includes "John McFarlane and his three sons".

I seem to be rather busy this year.

On the 11/11 i was at home, on rememberance sunday i was in Morrisons supermarket, and was disgusted with the amount of people who continued to walk about or chat to each other. Are they blind? the rest of the shoppers stopped and were silent, and the fact that there was an elderly lady who judging by her looks prob had a father in ww2 or at least a grand father and uncles in ww1 continued to shop and openly tut'd at people who were standing in her way, was appalling. Both my kids (11,13) visited the Alloa memorial and placed a poppy cross the same as every year before, in memory of my grans brother who was shot by a sniper in france. Even they stop and have a 2 min silence, ok rant over thank you for listening lol

This is the "fallout" (no pun intended) from Sundays service.

On Sunday I was on duty at the service in Pitlochry which was very well attended by members of the public. When the parade started I had cause to stop a number of vehicles from making further progress for the duration of the ceremony. One of the drivers asked if it was an Orange Walk that was taking place !!

On Remembance Sunday, I was on parade with my Guide Unit at my Church. I had the privilege of having 6 Memorial Books ,that I had compiled, dedicated to the memory of 259 men and 1 lady who had served in both World Wars. These brave people all had connections to various Churches in Coatbridge. The War Memorials from these Churches are now in New St. Andrews Parish Church.
A special moment on a special day.
Lest We forget!

At 11.00am on 11.11.11. I was under the Menin Gate. I had a wreath to lay along with many others it was so moving.
Sadly on Sunday I was on a coach which left the coach station in Birmingham at 11.00.
Bad timing or what. Still my thought went back to the trip I had just made with The War Research Society.
