Queen's Park Football Club memorial.
It is a brass tablet in an oak frame with the clubs badge. It lists 230 names of members of the club and players who went to war, 29 died.

The Magersfontein Memorial used to be housed in the The People's Palace, Glasgow Green. Sometime after the fiftieth anniversary the memorial was removed from the Palace and put in storage somewhere in Glasgow. This was carried out by the old Glasgow Parks Department. On the approach of the centenary (2002) the administration at the time decided to display the memorial. However, whilst in storage the memorial was found to have disintegrated over the ensuing fifty years. The reason, according to Fiona Hayes, Curator of the People's Palace is that the memorial was made of plaster, not granite, and wherever it was stored the atmospheric conditions contributed to the erosion of the memorial. In other words there is no longer a Magersfontein Memorial. Also, it appears that the photo on the Virtual Mitchell website is the only one in existence.

The Salvation Army Citadel in Holdsworth Street, Anderston, Glasgow (mentioned above) has been demolished over the last few months.
I've had confirmation from the Salvation Army Captain in charge that there was no War Memorial in the buidling. |

Did this one end up on the forum? It was unveiled in the school hall on Saturday the 6th of May 1922.
(Glasgow Herald 8th of May 1922)
"The memorial, which has been designed by Mr James Gray, consists of a large bronze tablet, with a border of dove-cloured marble.
The middle portion of the tablet bears a representation of an angel hovering with outstretched wings over the figures of a soldier and sailor resting on the ground on either side of the Royal Standard. The names of 116 ex-pupils of the school who fell in the war are set out in alphabetical order on four side panels, and at the bottom of the tablet there is an appropriate inscription." |

The Scottish Clerks Association (1886-1963) who used to reside at 93 West Regent Street, Glasgow had a memorial unveiled in their new premesis on 6th of May 1922 (source-Glasgow Herald 8th may 1922).

The photos are on the Glasgow Gaelic School thread at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1993 which looks to be in Queries & Requests. Perhaps a moderator could arrange a more suitable home(?).
I'm fairly certain they were on Hidden Glasgow too but I can't find them now. |
