Thanks, that's one I didn't know about.
Strangely my wife's relative, James Young Duncan, is on it as a Royal Engineer but he transferred to the Notts and Derby Regiment and was killed on 31st July 1917. He was a painter and decorator to trade.

I think the following article supports my belief that this is the Coupar Angus Parish/Civic Memorial. The others in the town all pertaining to the various churches and school;

THE SCOTSMAN: 13.11.1924

COUPAR ANGUS WAR MEMORIAL

An illuminated scroll, in an oak frame, containing the names of the 81 officers and men belonging to Coupar Angus parish who fell in the war, was unveiled in the ex-Service Men's Hall by Mr Thomas Ferguson, Princeland, Hon. President of the ex-Service Men's Club. The dedicatory prayer was offered by Rev. John Walker, North U.F. Church. In the name of the club, a beautiful wreath was laid in front of the memorial. The Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Bugler Stewart Inches. The Pipe Band were in attendance.

PERTHSHIRE ADVERTISER: 05.02.1921
COUPAR SOLDIER SHOT IN IRELAND

News was received early in the week that Private Alex. M'Pherson, who joined the Scottish Rifles about six months ago, had been shot in a village on the outskirts of Dublin. It was at first supposed to be the work of Sinn Feiners, but later news showed that it was the result of an accident. M'Pherson and several others had been engaged cleaning their rifles, and one in the hands of a comrade unexpectedly went off, the bullet entering M'Pherson's chest and coming out at the small of his back. The accident took place on Saturday, and the wounded lad died on Sunday morning in a Dubin Infirmary. The sad affair has been received with sorrow in the town, where, though not a native, the lad was well-known. He was only 18 years of age, and was the son of Mr James M'Pherson, Commercial Street, and formerly of Friockheim. The body was brought over from Ireland, arriving at Coupar late on Thursday night. The coffin was placed in the armoury, and from there the funeral was due to take place at 2 p.m., Friday with full military honours.

1901 Census: James M'Pherson, Railway Inspector, was residing with his wife and three children in Union Place, Coupar Angus. Alexander B. M'Pherson was born in Coupar Angus in 1902.

PERTHSHIRE ADVERTISER: 21.01.1922
COUPAR ANGUS -
OBITUARY

On Thursday there was laid to rest the remains of Mr Thomas Coogan, foreman telephone linesman, and one of the heroes of the Great War. He went over to France in 1915 with his whole staff of engineers to play a part in the great struggle for freedom. Alas! he saw his fourteen companions fall by his side, and he received a shock from which he never recovered. After lying for some time in hospital he returned to his home, and his health was never again re-estabished, and on Monday he passed to his rest. Mr Coogan, although he suffered much, was of a cheerful nature, kind, obliging, and an excellent companion. He was the pioneer of the Comrade movement here, and for a time acted as secretary. He found his great delight, however, in his garden, which was always kept in a way good to behold. As long as strength remained, he spent his days in the midst of his flowers and vegetables. It was his joy to see them grow, and he cared for them as tenderly as a mother would care for her child. A very large company attended his funeral to pay the last mark of respect to a man who laid down his life in his country's cause. About forty ex-Service men were present and when the hearse reached the churchyard gate six of them carried the coffin shoulder high to the grave. A beautifu wreath of tiger lillies on a background of black oak leaves, shaped like a shield, was laid upon the coffin by men who had also passed through the horrors of war. Father Stretch, of Blairgowrie, read the beautiful and impressive service of his church, after which the coffin was reverently lowered into the grave. Standing beside the open tomb the words of the poet flashed across the page of memory:-

"What is the gift of life
To him whose soul through this tempestuous road
Hath passed, and found its house, its Heaven, its God!
Who sees the boundless page of knowledge spread,
And years, as boundless, rolling o'er his head;
No cloud to darken the celestial light.
No sin to sully, and no grief to blight;
Is not that better life a glorious thing!"

Mr Coogan has left a widow and five children to mourn his loss, and the sympathy of the whole community goes out to them.

Note:
Thomas Coogan, No. 71926, Royal Engineers. Served Overseas. Enlisted 20.07.1915 - Discharged 08.03.1916. Cause of Discharge; Para 2(b)(i) Sickness. Issued SWB 138, 890.

Born 25th June 1878 in Borris, Queen's County (now County Laois), Ireland.

COUPAR ANGUS
SUDDEN DEATH OF EX-SERVICE MAN

On Monday morning, about nine o'clock, Mr William Smeaton was found dead in his home in Queen Street.The death had occurred from internal haemorrhage, contracted, it is supposed, during the night. Deceased was aged 39, and served his time as a grocer with Mr M'Neill, The Cross. He had been unable to follow his occupation since the war, however, having contracted lung trouble in being gassed while serving at the front. His sudden death caused a stir of profound sympathy in the town, and the funeral, which took place on Thursday, was largely attended, a party of about fifty ex-Service men turning out to pay their last respects to their late comrade.

Note:
William Smeaton, Pioneer No. 39021, Royal Engineers.

I've scoured Scotlands People for a d.c. too without success. Very odd.

The below mentioned Soldiers were named in "The Journal of Private Fraser",page 167.
ISBN 1 - 896979-28-9 Published by CEF Books P.O.Box 29123,Nepean,Ontario,K2J 4A9,Canada.

" There was much evidence of the fight that took place last February,when the enemy captured the International
Trench, but were driven back a few weeks later.In the counter-attack, the British entrenched themselves in a
new line about fifty yards ahead of the International Trench, which received its name on account of it having
changed hands so often. The International Trench was almost levelled to the ground. In parts it appeared to
have been blown in on the German occupants.The ground in the vicinity was pitted with shell holes, betoken
-ing much strife, while graves in ones and twos dotted the landscape. The crosses were, however, almost
rotten, and the inscriptions scarcely legible. It is one place the Graves Commission should visit, if they want
to keep the graves from being lost sight of. At the back of the front line, within two yards of a dug-out, was
a wooden cross with the inscription thereon: " James Young, 1st Gordon Highlanders, Mar.3/16, killed in
action." The Gordons, as usual, seem to be in every fight that is happening, and their slain always appear in
the van. Another Gordon, Glen Dey, by name, is buried in the parapet of "Lovers Lane" the communication
trench between the front and support lines. G.Dunne, a third Gordon Highlander, is interred at the bottom
of "The Drive." Behind a sentry post, near the southern end of the support line, were a couple of crosses in
memory of L/Cpl.Etheridge and Pte. Deverall of the 13th Canadian Battalion. Behind the supports were
numerous graves. One contained the bodies of 18 soldiers. Several had the familiar notice " Unknown
British Soldier " buried here."
