THE Church of Scotland, Pollokshields, stands on the corner of Shields Road and Albert Drive Glasgow. The memorial is a tall granite Anglo-Saxon style cross reminiscent of the type found in Northumberland and Cumbria with tapering shaft set on an octagonal plinth, standing outside the church on the Shields Road side. The design of the cross appears to have been based on that of Caedmon's Cross at Whitby, there are intricate patterns carved on the side and the shaft is divided into seperate panels each of which contains a relief carving of a bilbical scene of character.
The names of the dead are carved on the steps of the plinth.

Changes to Church life in Pollokshields

The following chart outlines the changes over the years to church life in Pollokshields.
Where there were six churches, now there is one.

Within the church there is a Book of Remembrance.

The book contains, in calligraphy, the name of each church which by various unions became the single Pollokshields Church of Scotland.
A drawing of each church and the original memorials is also contained therein. More importantly it contains the names of those members of the various churches who died in the 1914 – 1918 and 1939 – 1945 wars and the Falklands War. The book’s pages are regularly turned.
