I found the following grave while photographing West Calder cemetery for the SWGP:
Couldn't find him on CWGC. I checked Scotlandspeople and he is listed as "Bootmaker, 3rd HLI".
Cause of death was vascular heart disease.
Have I located a non-comm?
I don't have the official death certificate, only the page you download from Scotlands People.

David
It appears you have found a CWGC non comm. He was discharged the previous month.
His service file survives and confirms the link betwen discharge and death.
Can you send me the Death record you have in original quality to the e-mail from my signature?
If it gives the required information I can put a case forward to MOD / CWGC on your behalf.
Update
He is a post discharge death Non-comm _________________ Jim

Thanks for the DC, it confirms everything.
It is actually in error since, as advised, he was discharged in December 1917 but the number and unit tie with the record and confirm the service related cause. _________________ Jim

15576 Pte Archibald Forrest, 3rd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry has been forwarded as a case, on David's behalf, to MOD / CWGC as a post discharge service related death non comm ( VDH). His details are now in the system.
Will update when further details available.
Well done David in finding him. _________________ Jim

Is there a reason why his place of burial isn't given as West Calder? It seems clear that he's buried there. |

The details I added about The United Kingdom Book of Remembrance under the listing confirms this is temporary arrangement. This recent change by CWGC was detailed on the Forum previously.
Until earlier this year non comms were not commemorated by CWGC until the various checks to confirm supplied burial details, etc were confirmed. This can be a very lengthy process involving legal issues, etc.
The United Kingdom Book of Remembrance is used as an interim measure which means the casualty details I copied here are available from CWGC now.
I sourced the relevant West Calder lair details earlier this year and passed them on. _________________ Jim
