Funnily enough the Duddingston War Memorial in Edinburgh is a Celtic cross without any names listed, just like the Uddingston War Memorial.

No Interest in Memorial for Uddingston - On Monday night a public meeting was held in the Grammar School, Uddingston, to consider whether a memorial to those who fell in the Great War should not be erected even yet. Sir Thomas Wilson presided, and expressed the opinion that something should yet be done. The attendance was extremely poor, and it was decided to adjourn without coming to any decision. Very interesting article.

I wonder if apathy is the primary reason for the one or two other parishes around the country having no memorials?
Clearly someone put wheels into motion at some point as there's a memorial there now, albeit with no names. Perhaps after the second world war?

Derek.

I wonder if it isn't more that whilst nobody wishes to forget the sacrifice, some don't want a daily reminder of their loss.

Very interesting indeed that apathy in 1924 was overcome and a memorial eventually unveiled. Some towns never unveiled a memorial but has any reserach been done on why some could have theirs in place as early as 1919-20 and yet others were still dithering five years after the war?

"Information has reached the village of Nackerty, Uddingston, that Private George Conner A Company, 2nd Battalion the Cameronians, has been killed. Looking back at earlier posts and looking at the inscription on the memorial was this one erected after the Second World War?

I believe there is someone in Lanarkshire recently honoured by the Daily Record who could maybe track down the names?
