At Kirk Memorial Congregational Church, Edinburgh on Sunday last. Lieutenant-General Sir Francis J. Davies unveiled a brass tablet encased in an oak frame, in memory of 46 men connected with the church and brotherhood who gave their lives in the war. The men were worthy of all honour, said the General, and he believed that their courage, bravery and heroism would ever be an inspiration to all to do what they could for the well-being of humanity. He felt sure that the tablet would ever remind them of the great debt of gratitude due to the memory of these worthy men. The Rev. William Watson conducted the service, and offered the dedicatory prayer.

I can't find anything about the Kirk Memorial Congregational Church so don't know if this memorial still exists.

I will take a reasonable guess that this is the same as 'Kirk Memorial Congregational Union Church' in Montgomery Street. Also assuming the same as 'Kirk Memorial Evangelical Union Church, 121 Montgomery Street, Edinburgh'. If these assumptions are correct, then this is its reference on the Canmore website: Kirk Memorial Evangelical Union Church

This building is on the corner of Montgomery Street and Elgin Terrace. See Google Maps Streetview click here. Online references show this building as The Calton Centre. Ominously the Google Maps streetview picture shows a 'for sale' board on the building. Another view click here.

I know excatly where this building is, it is just round the corner from me!

You'll be glad to hear that the former church / former community centre is now in use again as a dance studio, still known as the Calton Centre.

I was in it when it was a community centre and there were certainly no traces of its life as a church left.

I will see if one of my neighbours know when the church closed.
