A female casualty that is hopefuly in the Greenock Roll of Honour book is remembered in the W.V.S. Roll of Honour held in Westminster Abbey.

Mary Piggot McCartney, A.R.P. worker, Greenock,

[edit]As it happens she is not in the WW2 roll of honour for Greenock.

I see there is a Lochhead mentioned earlie in the thread, a relation perhaps?

Derek.

An extraordinary coincidence. As a result of my interest in female casualties I checked CWGC for this lady and she certainly qualifies for inclusion in my project.

The coincidence being that there are only two McCartney civilians, with apparantly no connection, who died on the same day miles apart.

For the second year in a row this memorial has had metal stolen from it by thieves for scrap. I would love to get my hands on them.

It's probably worth copying some pages of Jim's copies of the unveiling booklet here on this page so you can refer to them whilst looking at Tam's photographs.
