The window was dedicated to Pilot Officer Peter St Clair Erskine, who died on active service 1939, and to his stepfather, Wing Commander Sir John Milbanke, who died in 1947 from injuries also received during World War II. Designed by William Wilson. Theme is an airman standing on White Cliffs of Dover, with the St Clair and Milbanke family mottos -'Fight' and 'Resolute and Firm' respectively - and the patron saints of Scotland and England, St Andrew and St George.

UKNIWM lists this as both 57808 and 53623. I have emailed them to inform them of the duplication.

If Sir John Milbanke died in 1947 as a result of injuries sustained in WW2, is he commemorated on CWGC register? I can't see him but maybe I'm missing something.

Mike - It would take a Death Cert and Service record to confirm but I'd guess that his cause of death was not directly due to his military service.

He has a few entries in the London Gazette

No. 905 (County of Surrey) (Balloon) Squadron. The undermentioned are granted commissions in the ranks and on the dates stated:— Flying Officer. 5th Sept. 1938. Sir John Charles Peniston MILBANKE, Bart..

No. 905 (County of Surrey) Squadron. The undermentioned Flying Officers are promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant on the dates stated: —
26th June 1939. Sir John Charles Peniston MILBANKE, Bart.

BALLOON BRANCH Sir John Charles Peniston MILBANKE, Bart. (90535) Promoted to Squadron Leader (Temp)

BALLOON BRANCH. Sqn. Ldrs. (tempy.) granted the rank of Sqn. Ldr. (war subs.): — Sir John C. P. MILBANKE, Bt. (90535). 24th Sept. 1942.

Transferred from Balloon Branch to RAF Regiment 4 October 1943

R.A.F. REGIMENT. Promotion. Sqn. Ldr. to Wg. Cdr. (temp.), ist Jan. 1945: — Sir John C. P. MILBANKE, Bt. (90535).
