Andrew Durward is also listed on the North Canongate School, Edinburgh memorial. As he had an MA I am guessing he was a schoolmaster there.

Andrew Durward is listed on the Moray House [url=http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=4657Edinburgh Provincial Training Centre Memorial[/url]

Which would confirm your theory.
