UKNIWM – Not Listed
In Glasgow Cathedral OS Map Ref NS 590 650
In the Chapter House of the Cathedral I found this framed colour with no plaque or explanation and it is well apart from other military memorials. I have identified it as a rare 3rd colour of 74th Regiment of Foot. Also known as an Assaye Colour, it was awarded in 1803 and last carried by 1st Bn HLI in 1959. I am not clear whether this one colour was carried throughout that period (seems unlikely - 25 years is a good run for a colour) or which period this colour belongs to.

I believe the Royal Regiment of Scotland is to get a new Assaye Colour. Both the 74th and 78th Highlanders both recieved them but only the HLI continued to carry it. |

Further information and the other two colours which make up this memorial.
These are in the upper chapter house of the cathedral.
The Assaye Colour (according to the cathedral guide book) is the original Assaye Colour presented to the regiment in 1803 by the East India company by Col Sir Arthur Wellesley (later Duke of Wellington). It was laid up in the cathedral in 1882. Hanging nearby are the other colours of the regiment, presumably from the same period.
