A new Memorial was unveiled yesterday at Redford Barracks to commemorate those who were killed in Afghanastan.

See BBC report below.

I have been in contact with the Commanding Officer of 3 Rifles and have been invited to document and photograph the new memorial in Redford Barracks some time next week.

I will keep you all posted.

Hi Shona,

While you are there, it may be worth asking if there are any other memorials in the Barracks.

I was planning to do that. I will ask when I phone to arrange a time, in case we need to get permission to enter any buildings etc, however I can't remember any from when I spent some time in the officers mess there in the 80's, but I suppose I wasn't looking!!!!!! (and it was a long time ago)

I recall a chapel in Redford Barracks, that would be worth a try.

I would like to thank Lt Col Kitson who gave me permission to take the photos and to Major C Willis who kindly gave up his time to escort me backwards and forwards and tell me about the brave lads that they lost.

As Redford Barracks was on the recently announced closure list, I hope that the above memorial and bench will be suitably preserved (relocated?).
