The Edzell & District Boer war memorial is a grey granite celtic cross with wheel-head and bosses standing on a low tapering pedestal and rustic base.
The commemoration and names of the dead are set in painted lettering on the faces of the pedestal.

I see it was to commorate the Great Boer War. I wonder if that is to distinguish it from the First Boer War in 1881? I've never seen it called that before.

Hello Mark,
Thanks for spotting that! I have recorded those photographs as 'Glamis', they were taken 1994. When I made the post I remeber seeing 'Edzell' but I must have been away with the fairies and it never registered! Embarassed
I am changing the heading and will be working up that way before Christmas so I should get a chance to double check.
Apologies for that! and thanks again.
Jim

There's a number of books refer to it by that name, including Conan Doyle's history.
