Another cracker here. On Longforgan War Memorial is commemorated: Cornelius F T Boyd. He was born on 26th November, 1891 at 56 India St., Edinburgh, his father being David Milne Boyd, writer.
David Milne Boyd died on 3rd February, 1929 at Longforgan - he was the Inspector of Poor and registrar of births.
I cannot 'find' Cornelius Boyd in any of the primary sources.

Found the detail below but no sign of him serving anywhere.

" On the Longforgan War Memorial there is one Cornelius Fortune Thomson Boyd, died 1917. Cornelius was in NZ and died during WW1. whilst serving in the NZ Expeditionary Force? The circumstances of his death are unknown.

Cornelius FTB was the son of David Milne Boyd, Writer and Jessie Blaikie Thomson. He was born November 26th 1891, 56 Dundee Street, Edinburgh.

David Milne (son of Peter Milne, Miller and Jessie Milne was born 28June/23rd July 1848, Liff Benvie and Iinvergowrie, Angus) married Jessie Blaikie Thomson (daughter of Alexander Thomson and Janet Richie) December 14th 1871, Northgate, Peebles. One of the witnesses was Cornelius Fortune Thomson.

I don't know when Jessie Thomson died, but David Milne then married Margaret Watt. He was living in Longforgan where he died and was Inspector of Poor and Registrar. "

Thanks for that - found the detail on rootschat. Unfortunately the lady with interest in Longforgan War Memorial hasn't featured on the site for over a year. Wonder where she gor the info ?

I did notice that but meant there is no sign of him serving ( missing from nominal rolls) and dying overseas, nor is his name on the National Memorial Roll. If you order the service file let me know the outcome. He might be a potential non comm depending on the circumstances of his demise.

His man died of flu in 1919 in New Zealnd will get more info soon.

Anne, thanks. Boyd had slipped mind recently but as is the case when this happens, something turns up. Looking forward to any further info.
