This war memorial is located on a rocky section of the B 862 road near to Gorthleck and covers the surrounding villages of Foyers etc

In view of the significance of the town of Bethune in WW1 I thought I'd look up this man:

Name: BETHUNE
Initials: A
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Seaforth Highlanders
Unit Text: 4th Bn.
Age: 18
Date of Death: 13/11/1918
Service No: S/29762
Additional information: Son of Donald and Bessie Bethune, of Corriegarth, Gorthleck, Inverness-shire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: 227 (near North wall of Church).
Cemetery: DRUMTEMPLE CEMETERY
( is this cemetery near-by? )

There is a surprising number of Australian and Canadian casualties with this surname.
