I thought originally that he was not comemorated but I think it is just that his name is misspelt on CWGC as Kernan. MIC, Stranraer memorial and family gravestone all have him as Keenan. Can this be corrected?

Probably not, there are many similar examples in the CWGC Roll.

Grave stone and war memorial details are not acceptable as a record for CWGC to make a change. Clearly the NOK did not bother to verify the details as those on CWGC are in the basic form supplied by the military. The same applies to the MIC as they are often inaccurate. The service file would resolve but does not appear to have survived.

I checked the official records of overseas deaths and 23078 Sco. Rif. is recorded in both UK and Scotland as Kennan, so a Death Certificate ( which is an Official Record) would not assist here either, assuming he is the same man. Despite this SNWM have him as Keenan. A Will exists, but this might add to the confusion.
It you get it let me know the details. There is a cost involved.

Am awaiting advice regarding orginal CWGC record detail.

Thomas Sillars (script handwriting it could say Sellars on the register)Keenan was born on 6th November 1895 at 9.15pm at Whiteleys. His father was a molecatcher, and the birth was registerd at Inch. It's really without a doubt he's the same man as CWGC - it is really a pity though if his name is incorrectly registered and spelt that way on his CWGC headstone.
