Today's Midlothian Advertiser is reporting that the plaque with the Second World War names has been stolen.

Looks like they wasted no time replacing it.

Scotsman

A BRONZE plaque stolen from the Polton village war memorial was replaced in time for tomorrow’s Armistice service thanks to efforts of Midlothian Council staff and a local masonry firm.

The plate, engraved with the names of local soldiers who died in the Second World War, went missing around a month ago and is thought to have been stolen for its scrap value.

With the theft reported to the police, the council’s land services team used photographs of the missing plaque to quickly design a replacement with the correct fonts, lettering and names.

The metal replacement plaque was then fired before being later set in the Polton village memorial free of charge by Forth Stone, a local firm based in Dalhousie Business Park.

Forth Stone also strengthened the memorial as a whole.

Well done Forth Stone, a great result in time for Armistice Day.
