If anyone's in and around Paisley in the coming weeks, could they possibly have a look for a name in the Paisley Roll of Honour? I believe there is a book with the names in Paisley Abbey, and possibly another copy in Paisley Library.

I'm looking for a mention of Robert Gordon Miller, who may be listed in there.

David,

If Miller is listed in the Paisley RoH that'll bring him up to being remembered on 7 memorials and 3 roll of honour books (not including CWGC & SNWM).

Do we have any other casualties listed on so many memorials?

Derek.

Captain Allan Gilmour, Lovat Scouts is commemorated twelve times, probably more.

Thanks

Hi David,

I checked in Paisley Library and they have a book 'Paisley's Fallen in the War' which lists the following under 'Lieutenants'

"Rev. R. Gordon Millar (32) St. Mary's Parish,
Dumfries, ex-assistant in Paisley Abbey - joined
Army 1915 - commissioned to A.&S.H. - died of
wounds - reported May 15, 1917"

Millar is spelled with an 'A' but I checked and couldn't find any other R.G. Miller so I thought this must be your man. Because of the mention of Paisley Abbey I checked in there but it was just closing when I got there. It is a different, larger book on display in the Abbey which includes photographs and is kept in a glass case with the pages turned every day. I was told that if you contact the secretary via the website they will check for you, (or check with Nora who opens the cabinet to change the page). Maybe you could get .a photograph and more information there.

Jim

Jim

He's sometimes spelled 'ar' and sometimes 'er' so it will be the same man.
