I have noted the following NCO as listed on the War Memorial,
Name: McHOLME, JAMES
Initials: J
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Serjeant
Regiment/Service: Connaught Rangers
Unit Text: 5th Bn.
Date of Death: 21/08/1915
Service No: 3534
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 181 to 183.
Memorial: HELLES MEMORIAL
Sergeant McHolme is shown in Soldiers Died (Part 69) with the following birth and residence details;
Born: Edinburgh Resided: Haddington N.B. Enlisted: Dublin.
Sgt McHolme owned a Jewellers shop in Castlebar in Co. Mayo.
He is commemorated on a memorial plaque in Christ Church, Castlebar, Co Mayo and also named in the Mayo Peace Park Garden of Remembrance, Castlebar, County Mayo.
I have located this extract which refers to Sgt McHolme;
Col Jourdain his Commanding Officer wrote of him in a letter; “I have lost one of whom I thought a great deal about. And one who was bound to rise to higher things owing to his brave actions. He was gallantly leading his little army when he was shot down.”
Would it be possible to have the exact location of the Alloa Memorial for my records please.
I hope this info is of use.

I'd like to see an old photo of this memorial to see if this man should be holding something. The man at the front has the wire cutters, the man at the far side a rifle and bayonet, I think he was holding something once upon a time...

Not listed on the memorial although his parents resided there at the time of his death. Nor is he on the Glasgow RoH, he was born there. So where should he be commemorated?
