ARBROATH & DISTRICT ROLL OF HONOUR
Second-Lieutenant Robert Gordon Millar, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, thirty-two years of age, was the son of Mrs Millar, Ancrum Road, Dundee. He was a native of Arbroath, and a brilliant pupil of the High School. From there he went on to St. Andrews University, where he graduated. For three years he was assistant minister at Paisley Abbey, and afterwards became minister of St. Mary's Parish Church, Dumfries. Mr Millar joined the Army as combatant and went to the front in 1916. He was wounded in April, and died on 11th May, 1917.

The Rev. Robert Gordon Millar, M.A. 1913. Parish Minister at Greyfriars, Dumfries. Second Lieutenant, 4th, attached 11th (Service) Battalion, Princess Louise's (Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders). Born 28th September, 1883. Died 11th May, 1917 of wounds received at Rouex, east of Arras, 23rd April, 1917, in the Battle of Arras.

This man is on a great many War Memorials.

He is listed on more memorials than those mentioned above, those being the Arbroath (& its RoH), Arbroath High School, St Andrews University RoH, St Giles minister's memorial & St Mary's church Dumfries.
He is on the Dumfries civic memorial & University College Dundee memorial as well as the St Mary's, Dumfries memorial (not the previously mentioned individual one).
According to Pat's information R.G. Miller/Millar was an interpreter in the Argyll's.

I would put money on R.G. Miller/Millar also being in the Paisley Roll of Honour book in Paisley Abbey where he once served.

There was also a book written about him "In Memory of the Rev Robert Gordon Millar M.A." by Robert M Laidlaw, published 1917.

Had a bit of problem with the "time line" for this man.
He was 33 when he died in 1917 but gained his MA at St Andrew's in 1913 so he couldn't have gone from the High School to Uni.
Turns out he joined the Post Office in 1899. See - The Edinburgh Gazette 15 December 1899 Issue:11154 Page:1284 and 1 June 1900 Issue:11202 Page:543

On the 1901 census, aged 17, he was a Sorting Clerk & Telegraphist and living with his mother and siblings at Ancrum Road, Lochee.
