Etienne Alexander MacDonald was the son of exiled Jacobites. During the Napoleonic Wars he rose through the ranks to become a Marshal of France.

He is one of the marshals commemorated with a statue on the south wall of the Louvre in Paris.

He is on the upper tier above Poniatowski

And here's a post we've already got about a proposed memorial to MacDonald in South Uist where his parents came from.

He is also commemorated on one of the piers at the Arch of Triumph.

There are a lot of names and it took me a while to find him. If you stand in front of the unknown soldier's grave whilst standing inside the arch then MacDonald's name is on the pier beside the grave and on your left.

I also have to post this photograph of Marshal Moncy. He was another of Napoleon's marshals but where the others on the Louvre look dashing and commanding, as they should in statues, this poor chap looks a bit miserable.

Thanks

Adam
