UKNIWM Ref No. 44352
OS map ref: NT403051

The brass memorial plaque of 16 names was unveiled in the Newmill schoolrooms by the Duke of Buccleuch in August, 1920. It was designed and executed by Messrs Wm. Morris & Co. of Westminster.
In recent years the plaque had become tarnished and forgotten at the back of the village hall until the intervention of Jimmy and Elsie Gray who both had relative’s names recorded on it. To their credit, they had the plaque cleaned and remounted in 1996, in a more prominent position near the entrance to the hall.
The names of the fallen were also placed in a memorial book which is kept in St.Mary’s Church in Hawick.

The memorial was moved to its new location within Teviothead Church in 2010 as Newmill village hall became redundant.
