Dear all,

Iam looking for family of Achibald Angus McINTYRE,killed in action,28th february 1945.Hawker Tempest NV680,222 Sqn crashed after attack the railroad at Nunspeet,Holland.F/Lt.McINTYRE is buried in the Nunspeet
General Cemetery.

Maybe you know enything about F/Lt.McINTYRE,please requist,thank you.

Additional information: Son of Archibald Norman and Stella Mary McIntyre, of Littlehampton, Sussex.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Plot 2. Grave 391.
Cemetery: ERMELO (NUNSPEET) NEW GENERAL CEMETERY

So I think his Scottish connection (a very Scottish name) is at least one generation back.

Dear Paul,

The British Legion in Littlehampton cant find enything about him.
I have also contakt others and he is not on the memorial at Littlehampton.
One person said he was of Glasgow,so I hope to find relatives.

The only other thing I have on him is from "Fighter Command Losses of the Second World War"

222 Squadron, Tempest V, Flt/Lt A A McIntyre, aircraft NV680, encountered flak North East of Nijmegen. Buried in Ermelo New General cemetery.

I've checked the Scottish National War Memorial online database and this man isn't listed there which makes me suspect he wasn't born in Glasgow (or anywhere in Scotland). He has a very Scottish name so there will have been a Scottish conection at some point in his family history.

I hope a clue turns up somwhere.

Dear Jaap,

I recently found this website and your interest in Flt Lt AA McIntyre. He was my wife's uncle. Although he has a very Scottish name, the family hadn't lived in Scotland for 150 years. Uncle Angus, like his brother - my wife's father, was born in India. The family had always been part of the British Colonial system in India.

Sometime in the future, we intend to visit his grave. In the meantime, if I can be of any assistance do let me know.

ancestry.com have a record of Angus Archibald McIntyre,
born in Quetta, India - crossing into USA at Detroit. I do not have the date.
This border crossing was often used by RAF members on the way to flying training in the USA.

I have been researching him as part of a project for his old school and have the following

McIntyre, Archibald Angus Flight Lieutenant 123214
222 (Natal) Squadron Royal Air Force
Killed in action on the 28th of February 1945 aged 21
He was born on the 27th of October 1922 the son of Archibald Norman and Stella Mary McIntyre, of Littlehampton in Sussex.
He was educated at Lancing College where he was in Sandersons House from September 1936 to July 1940. He was a member of the Cricket XI in 1939 and 1940, the Football XI in 1939 and 1940 and a member of the Squash Team in 1940. He achieved Cert A.
He was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve on the 13th of May 1942 and was promoted to Flying Officer on the 13th of May 1943. He was promoted to Flight Lieutenant on the 18th of November 1944.
At the time of his death he was with 222 Squadron who were based at RAF Predannack in Cornwall before moving to France in February 1945.
On the 28th of February 1945 he was flying Tempest NV680 on an armed reconnaissance over Holland when his aircraft was hit by flak to the north east of Nijmegen and crashed at 2.30pm.
He is buried at Ermelo (Nunspeet) New General Cemetery Plot 2 Grave 391

If you come across anything further in particular a photo I would be very interested indeed. We are releasing a website with the Lancing men of both wars next year
