I see only one CEF and one AIF name on this memorial which is unusual for the number of names listed. I would have expected more.

ANNAN, Alaistair
Rank: Private
Service Number: 22316464
Regiment/Corps: KOSB
Place of Birth/Home Town: Covan [Govan?], Glasgow
Date of Birth: 07 August 1931
Age: 19
Date of Death: 23 September 1950
Cemetery: UN Memorial Cemetery, Pusan. Grave 17.9.792

Note he is listed as KOSB. In August 1950 1st Bn KOSB and 1st Bn A&SH were both serving in Hong Kong. 1st Bn A&SH were assigned to reinforce the Americans in Korea from Hong Kong.

This website helps explain the difference between the regiment in the official record and the regiment listed on the memorial:

http://www.argylls1945to1971.co.uk/AandSH_Korea1950to51_1.htm

The following morning the Battalion entrained at Fanling for Kowloon to embark in H.M.S. Ceylon, and in its ranks were 17 from the Royal Leicesters, 25 from the King's Own Scottish Borderers...all volunteers to bring the Battalion up to its Korean war establishment.

On 23rd September 1950 1st Bn A&SH were involved in the action near Sonju in which Major Kenneth Muir was awarded a VC. The Argylls suffered heavy casualties on this day, some by friendly fire from the US Air Force.

Roll of Honour for Skye & Lochalsh by Graham Ross . Copies retained in Portree library and Inverness Library .

Portree War Memorial

On Thursday , 16th February 1922 the War Memorial was unveiled and dedicated to the Memory of the Men who had died in the Great War . The Ceremony commenced with the assembled crowd singing the 100th Psalm , followed by the Prayer of Invocation and the Address by Lieutenant Colonel K I MacDonald DSO of Tote. After Colonel MacDonald had unveiled the Memorial , the Roll of Honour with names of men from Sconser and Skeabost as well as Portree were read out.

When the last of the 101 names was read out , the newly unvieled Memorial was handed over to the safe keeping of the Parish Council. It had been constructed by local builder Mr Thomas MacFarlane , whose only son John was the youngest person from Portree to die in the Great War . After the Second World War the Memorial was re dedicated to include the names of those killed between 1939 and 1946 . Another name was added in the 1950's , that of a National Serviceman killed in the Korean War. The last two names were added as omissions from the Second World Wr during the celebrations in May 1995 , to mark 50 years since the end ing of the War in Europe.

The Memorial is situated in Somerlet Square in the middle of Portree village .
