There are two memorials in Old Monkland Church, Coatbridge.
WW1 plaque (wood) is on front of pulpit. with quote 'A! fredome is a noble thing' (My memory is a little uncertain)
WW2 plaques (wood) are on either side of chancel.

Great to see photos of the Memorials. I had them the wrong way round - WW2 on the pulpit - WW1 on the other 2 boards. It is a very difficult church to get good photographs as the light is not good - but am delighted to see these. I will try and get a note of the names soon.

The words on the Second World War panel say

"A! fredome is a noble thing"

and is from a long poem by John Barbour called 'The Brus' about Robert the Bruce. Part of that poem is called Frredom and the first line is the inscription on the memorial

From http://www.bartleby.com/101/9.html
Freedom

A! Fredome is a noble thing!
Fredome mays man to haiff liking;
Fredome all solace to man giffis,
He levys at ese that frely levys!
A noble hart may haiff nane ese,
Na ellys nocht that may him plese,
Gyff fredome fail; for fre liking
Is yarnyt our all othir thing.
Na he that ay has levyt fre
May nocht knaw weill the propyrtè,
The angyr, na the wretchyt dome
That is couplyt to foule thyrldome.
Bot gyff he had assayit it,
Than all perquer he suld it wyt;
And suld think fredome mar to prise
Than all the gold in warld that is.
Thus contrar thingis evirmar
Discoweryngis off the tothir ar.

I have info on the Great War men if anyone would like to see it. Also have photos of them from the Coatbridge and the Great War book from 1919 and a few of their headstone/name on memorial photos
