Robert Coventry Donaldson – age 32 – Private (1661) 11th Battalion, Australian Infantry.
Robert was educated in Edinburgh and became an accountant's clerk before he joined the Rio Tinto Company in London in 1902. He became a farmer in South Africa and then worked in America before settling in Perth, Western Australia. He was keen at rugby and a very good horseman and was working as a linesman when he enlisted in January 1915 Perth. He landed at Gallipoli in May 1915 but was admitted to hospital and rejoined his battalion on 8 July. Three weeks later he was killed.
Born 1882 in Dalton. Son of Rev. Robert Donaldson and of Rosa Emma Donaldson of Dalton Parish Church.
Brother of Netta Forest (Donaldson) De Miremont of 42 Cadogan Square, London.
Killed in Action on 1 August 1915 and buried in Shell Green Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
