I think this is a muster roll more than a roll of honour as such, so a list of those whose who served and came back?

Otherwise that'd be a lot of war dead from such a small population!

252544 Private (10th Battalion, Alberta Regiment) John Thow Jr. (b.1886) of Rush Lake was KIA 19170428 (his 31st birthday) at Arleux-en-Gohelle and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial north of Arras, Pas-de-Calais, for the 11,000+ Canadian soldiers who perished in northern France with no known grave. He was the son of John and Susan Thow of Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. John Jr. was farming when he enlisted at Swift Current early in 1916. He married Susan after signing up.

how odd. i cant imagine the are all casualties and there's no marks to indicate the war dead like other rolls of honour do.

Can't find him on CWGC.


If he isn't on CWGC then perhaps this shows that it is a list of all those who served and not only those who died. What are the names on the local civic war memorial?

Entry 51 has In memory of Mrs Burgess, Brawliemuir, Glenbervie d 29 Jul 1915 Age 77 Their son Frederick died of wounds in Palestine 20 April 1913? Age 29. (1918) is possible. B1889 so think who ever did the reading got it wrong.
