Ladybank - Fife
UKNIWM Ref No. 44223

The Ladybank war memorial is a simple rustic grey granite celtic cross with wheel-head set on a tapering pedestal of rustic blocks which rests on two steps. The commemoration and names of the WWI dead are in lead lettering on dressed panels cut into the face of the pedestal, with the names of the WWII dead listed on similar panels cut into both sides of the pedestal.
The memorial stands within a small enclosure entered by an iron gate which bears the motif of two crossed rifles over a wreath.
The monument stands in Station Square.

I like the detail on the gate. Crossed Lee-Enfield rifles over a wreath. A very nice touch.

Fife Black Watch Man Dies of Wounds
Mr Wm Bennet, head gardener, Melville, Ladybank, has received official notification of the death of his youngest son, Private Adam A. Bennet, 1st Black Watch, in hospital in France on 28th December.
Private Bennet, who was 22 years of age, was a gardener before the war, and was employed at Balruddery, near Dundee. He enlisted in the Scots Greys shortly after the outbreak of war, and was transferred to the 1st Black Watch in the beginning of June. A month later he went to France and was severely wounded at Hulluch on 13th October. He died from the effects of his wounds.
Dundee Courier 7 January 1916

Note - I couldn't see this man on either Ladybank or Dundee but wanted to post above somewhere. Hopefully if he is commemorated elsewhere this information can be moved

The final newspaper cutting refers to a booklet by Norman Ward who had researched the memorial.
Anyone got a copy?

I'd like to know more about two names:
NUCKARSIE D. SERGEANT (I think this should be Muckarsie)
and
OPDHAL P.A. PRIVATE

Can't see either on CWGC/SNWM.
