Hmm, South Queensferry is on the West Lothian side of the Forth. The Fife side is North Queensferry.

Doing a quick forum search we've three lockhart's on 4 civic memorials in Fife on the forum, but none called Charles.

Archibald F. J. Lockhart at Inverkeithing and North Queensferry (possibly a relation?)

James Herbert Lockhart at Abbotshall.

David Lockhart at Cowdenbeath.

In the Lothians we have on the forum:

Anthony Lockhart at Whitekirk

R Lockhart at Dalkeith

Robert Lockhart at Penicuik.

Most of the memorials are trascribed whithin their own threads, but not all I think, so you may have to trawl a bit to see if he's listed elsewhere?

Derek.

Enlistment location is Alloa but he's not on the Alloa memorial either.

SNWM has his place of birth as South Queensferry so it's not Fife. I've had a look at South Queensferry, Dalmeny, Abercorn and Bo'ness and he's not on any of those.

If he enlisted in Alloa and he was born in South Queensferry he may have potentially had a connection to any town in West Lothian, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire.

It may be case of going through the Lothians and Central Scotland sections of the forum to see if you can find any C Lockharts.

He died in late 1914 with the 2nd Gordons which means he was probably a regular soldier or reservist which may mean he left his home town years before the outbreak of war. This may make it very difficult to find him.

Thanks

Adam

His mother was residing in Dunfermline in 1920, but he is not listed there either.

Gents,

Many thanks for your research efforts. I will certainly start to look at your records in detail and hope I can find him.

Alex

Gents,

I believe I have found my Great Uncle on the Cairneyhill Memorial:

Charles Lockhart GH

Anybody who has any info would be much appreciated.

Success at least then.

It just had to be one of the memorials that wasn't transcribed on the forum, so the search facility wasn't of any help Rolling Eyes

Del,

Is there a way to search your database - or do you simply mean use the search function at the top of the screen? I found my Great Uncle by viewing through the photographs.

I read the help section before posting my request and searched the links posted by 'spoons' without any success. Is there any link with the data available on this forum and these national archives?

Rgds,
Alex

CWGC show only one Lockhart serving in the Gordons, and he is 963 Charles Lockhart.

Fair bet that is him at Cairneyhill, and near Dunfermline where his mother resided in 1920.

Yeah, I was just referring to the forum search facility.

Ideally all memorial have a text transcription of all names listed, but it's not so.
