I am working my way through the names on the above memorial. There are no clues other than name and rank. I've found two but which one fits the bill for being included on the memorial.
Sjt Alexander James 28590 16th Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment) born Speymouth 10/02/1884 enlisted Valcartier Age 33 Killed in Action F & F 13-Jun-17 Son of James James, of Kingston, Garmouth, Morayshire, Scotland, and the late Jessie James. Served in the South African Campaign. Morayshire Roll of Honour: Page 190: Occ Engine Driver. Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres M. R . 29 Panel 24 - 26 - 28 - 30
Sjt Alexander James 430165 3rd Canadian Pioneers born Kellas, Dallas 03/10/1885 enlisted Victoria Age 31 Killed in Action F & F 23-Jan-17 Son of the late Alexander and Annie James. Native of Kellas, Elgin, Scotland. Morayshire Roll of Honour: Page 189: Occ Woodman. Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension Fr 095 Plot I Row F Grave 38

I assume you must have some additional info to confim he was with the Canadians and that the rank is, in fact correct.
If so, it might be 430165 as Kellas is not that far from Rafford, whereas Speymouth / Garmouth is 15 miles away near Fochabers.
I would obtain their service file to be 100% sure. _________________ Jim

I try my best to give info that fits but we can't always know the family history to each name, where they were born yes where were they schooled and where they worked so it's really difficult so with two sjt's with the same name I just entered both as he maybe a cousin or other family member who is not known to researcher know.

Doh! Just realised that records for Canadians are not on Ancestry but available from somewhere across the water I think.

There is a Sergt. Alexander James, Canadians at Garmouth, but none on the Speymouth memorial. That may well be 28590 although you can't confirm that 100% simply from the NOK address.
Paul
The CEF records are available from the Canadian Archives in Ottawa. There is a cost. _________________ Jim

I checked on Ancestry and looked on the Family Trees and found that there are members researching both men. Have sent emails in the hope that someone can help with info.

The Attestation Forms give very brief info and the detail Anne submitted suggested she had accessed these.
The CEF Service File will have considerably more ( sometimes 40+ pages) and has much more detail that the UK files which might solve the mystery. I advised where to get them, not to be confused with our " National Archives ". They are not free.
Should this query be moved from " New members, Help & Introductions " ? _________________ Jim

430165 L/Sgt Alexander James. Son of Alexander James, Brooks Cottage, Kellas, Elgin, there in 1921.
28590 Sgt Alexander James. Son of Mrs Jessie James, Blackhillock, Burgie, Forres. A Will of June 1916 leaves his propery and effects to his mother at Blackhills, Rafford, Forres. Born Speymouth 10th Feb 1884. Served in the Cameron Highlanders and the Scottish Horse.
28590 is the correct man for Rafford. Burgie and Rafford are nearby. _________________ Jim

Burgie and Kellas are only about 5 miles apart.
