A wonderful memorial to Lt Russell and a marvellous riverside walk (not to mention a rather exciting kayak trip)

The Burn House and policies were open as part of Scotland's Gardens Scheme and the trust which runs it as an international residential study centre were kind enough to allow me to record the various items related to the property and Lt Russell

Original owner Lord Adam Gordon 'hosted' French prisoners of war during the late 18th Century and clearly saw them as a source of labour. In addition to the unique cattle tunnel, he also had them construct a walkway along the gorge of the River North Esk. No Geneva Convention back then!
