There is a Memorial pillar beside the Pier at Uig (isle of Skye ). The Memorial pillar commemorates the landing on the Pier of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on the 1st September 1902 . The upper section of the Memorial Pillar records the King and Queen's visit to Uig , Isle of Skye BUT ................. there is a plaque on the lower part of the pillar memorial recording in the Gaelic and in English the Memorial Restoration to the MEMORY OF THE FALLEN of TWO WORLD WARS and whose names are listed on the WAR MEMORIAL at UIG CEMETERY , ISLE OF Skye . The restoration took place JANUARY 1994.

The stone pillar memorial has a Kings Crown at the top followed by :
King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra landed at this pier and visited Uig on the 1st Sept 1902.

To Commemorate the event this memorial was erected by Theodore Lumley, Commissioner to the Trustees of the Estates of Uig, Kilmure and Staffin.

...............

The Lower section of the Memorial has TWO WAR MEMORIAL PLAQUES :

tha ath-aiseag a chuirn seo
air a choisrigeadh mar chuimhneachan
air na gaisgich a thuit anns an da chogadh
tha iad air an ainmeachadh
air a chuimhneachan aig seann chladh uige
- am faopilleach 1994 .

AND :

The Restoration of this Monument is dedicated to the Memory of the Fallen of Two World Wars whose Names are listed on the War Memorial at Uig Cemetery - JANUARY 1994.

I presume this is the memorial you are describing. Unfortunately Google Maps Streetview didn't get a good view of the memorial with its plaque.

Link to Google Maps Streetview of memorial by Uig (Skye) pier

Yes . that's it behind the council road sign just beside the car parking and Uig Ferry vehicle parking area.
Obviously Google did not realise that the Memorial had any importance when they did their survey !

I can supply the photos of the Memorial Pillar with the photos of the War Memorial Plaques for WW1 & WW2 .

But does that make this a Scottish War Memorial? I'm a bit doubtful.

"The Restoration of this Monument is dedicated to the Memory of the Fallen of Two World Wars"............

Pat has done very well to spot the plaque and bring it to our attention but I would suggest that the authorities who restored the plaque were really pushing credulity to link the visit of 1902 and somehow take in the memory of the areas war dead.

Derek

That was exactly my point, in which case this Forum should not follow their example in listing it.

It has a plaque on it dedicating it to memory of the fallen of two World Wars.

It may not originally have been a war memorial, but there's a plaque on it now so it gets included.
