Farnell - Angus District
The Farnell war memorial is a beautifull tall slender column in rustic grey granit with the roll of honour and a celtic cross motif in shallow relief on the smooth face. It stands on the bend in the road in the middle of the village within its own small enclosed garden.
The memorial was designed by Montrose sculptor Willie Lamb. Lamb's right hand was shattered in a wound received while serving with the Cameron Highlanders on the Western Front. He never recovered the use of his fingers and had to learn to use his left hand while recovering in Aberdeen after the war. The fact he reportedly designed and carved the memorials single-handedly at Farnell and also at nearby Hillside is in itself a remarkable feat.

Does anyone know who NORAH MARTIN was?
There is a possible death in Northampton in June Q 1915 aged 17.
Was she related to David O. Martin?
